[_private/discRH_ahdr.htm]Pat Gibson - sad newsFrom: Jimmy Knight CommentsWe received a telephone call today from Joann (Bolton) Marks with the news that Pat Gibson died. I always thought of Pat as a good friend. I remember a number of things about Pat. The following are just a few. First, he was the fastest 8th grader at the Eighth Grade Field Day in 1953. Not only was he the fastest kid, he won the 100 yard dash by more than 10 yards. This was competition between Russell, College Park and Hapeville. Second, he was a good football player, and particularly a good offensive blocker. I specifically remember him lying on the ground with a gash in his chin during the Southwest Dekalb football game. I remember telling him, “Pat, you aren’t hurt very bad. It’s just a little cut”, while thinking, “Wow! Look at all of that blood. He’s hurt pretty bad.” Third, I remember having a good time on a hayride to Chastain Park with Pat and Jean. I was around Pat and Jean during many other 1957 social activities and he always made the event fun for everyone. More recently, I remember how positive his attitude was at the last reunion. He was joking about losing his leg to diabetes, and I remember thinking that if I were in a similar situation I doubt if I would have such a positive outlook. We’ll miss our friend. Jeanette and I had dinner with Robert and Cherry Nix last evening. They were in San Antonio with a Church group and invited us for dinner. We had a great time catching up on recent events. The best news is that Robert and the planning group are thinking about a reunion this coming fall, possibility October. In addition to the news about Pat (Robert didn’t know he had died), he told me that Harriett (Lee) Watson and Judy Javorsky are both undergoing cancer treatment again. Our thoughts and prayers are with both of them and their families. [_private/discRH_aftr.htm] |
